Greetings

Hello HEDIRites.

Our new web page is starting to shape up.  One of the reasons for this change is to make it easier to maintain the directory.  Since 1992 I have been keeping an email directory of health educators.  Since 1995 this has been on my website, but it has been a manual effort.  With the newer softwares it is now possible for these directories to be self-regulated by the individual (thus saving me time).  So, in a very short manner, everybody who is on the HEDIR list will eventually be required to ‘register’ via this new page.  In the meantime, you can visit the old (and current) directory at www.kittle.siu.edu/hedir/directory.

You can get a head start by looking in the upper left hand corner you’ll see ‘Home’, ‘Log In’ and ‘Sign Up’.   You can get a jump on the rest of the people by Signing Up now (you can download the following tutorials: PDF Version (1.9 MB); WMV Version (5 MB); IPOD Version (6.5MB); PPT Version (4.5 MB)).  There you will be asked to input your data (just as we currently do). You’ll be given an initial password (that you can change) and you’ll be able to update whenever you so desire.  The nice thing about this is that if your information hasn’t been updated on a regular basis (i.e., annually) you’ll be prompted to do so.  It is also an opportunity to upload a photo.  I think it’s important to have such photos and this will eventually replace the HEDIR Photo page.

Eventually (probably sometime in August or September) EVERYBODY who wants to be part of the HEDIR listserv will be required to register via this mode.  Once you are registered you will also have the opportunity to start a Blog.  If you don’t know what a blog is, consider it an opportunity to expound on any issue you so desire (like the HEDIR currently offers).  Whereas the HEDIR list is only for subscribers, the HEDIR Blog will allow all to view such comments (HEDIR members and non-members).  However, only subscribes to the HEDIR will be able to ‘comment’ on the blogs.  As with the current system, only health educators (or those with a vested interest in health education) will be permitted to ‘register’.  Eventually I see the HEDIR page having various categories of BLOGS (i.e., sexuality;  program planning;  professional development).  As for now, we’ll just stick with one.

So, if you want to beat the rush, Sign Up now.  The first 100 to sign up will get a hearty handshake the next time I see them.
