Happy New Year!

Having the Thursday blog, Christmas 2008 and New Year 2009 fell to me. Sitting at the computer table in my home in Shady Shores, Texas I wish y’all a wonderful year in 2009. We know it has to be better than 2008 from a financial perspective.

We know that, when the economy performs poorly, members of the population manifest more heath problems. Even wealthy people are experiencing lots of stress in the face of major banks and corporations failing financially. Likewise, the Madoff scam has affected not only wealthy clients, but charitable organizations as well.

Health educators, as well as many other health and social welfare professionals, have major roles to play in promoting the health and well-being of members of our population during these troubled economic crises. It reminds me of the Mohan Singh maxim, which goes something like: “Be grateful for those with dispicable health habits for they give us a reason for being.” A parallel one appropriate at this time might be: Be grateful for economic crises for they give health educators challenges to test their mettle
