This little posting for discussion will be somewhat short today. At the risk of incurring the “wrath” of some, I am willing to make this post anyhow. I mean absolutely no disrespect to anyone who does not quite see this the same way as I, but maybe we can get a good discussion going.
I am sure that many of you have either read about, or heard about the South Caroline Roman Catholic priest who has told his parishioners that they should refrain from receiving Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because Mr. Obama supports abortion rights, and if the individual voted for Mr. Obama, that would “constitute material cooperation with intrinsic evil.” This is really quite a statement that is akin to something that one might see a “despot” state, and I am in no way condemning this particular priest for stating his viewpoint. However, when he tries to convince his parishioners that because they voted for a particular candidate that they are embracing “intrinsic evil,” I wonder what other things this particular individual may have told his “flock” in prior elections, or in regard to other issues that arise in South Carolina.
Many of you knew Murray Vincent and the wonderful job he did in lowering the teen pregnancy rate in certain counties in South Carolina. I wonder if Murray would have incurred the wrath of this individual because although this wonderful health educator was a proponent of abstinence from sexual activity until marriage, he was a realist and also promoted the use of contraceptives for those individuals who had made the decision to become sexually active. Murray, we know you did what was right and made a difference in the lives of many.
We now see additional “corruption” in the form of the Illinois governor allegedly trying to “sell” Mr. Obama’s Senate seat. I wonder if the South Carolina priest also considers this “material cooperation with intrinsic evil? Makes one think, doesn’t it.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Larry,
At this point, there do not seem to be a lot of people viewing our postings. Certainly there are few reacting to them, so your prospects for offending readers seem slight. On the other hand, we have to expect that any blog we post will offend some readers. Bloggers have to have thick skins and post away.
We have seen reports of conservative ministers preaching from the pulpit that members of their churches have moral obligations to vote against particular political nominees on the basis that these nominees did not support overthrowing the Roe Versus Wade Supreme Court decision for at least three decades. The Catholic Archbishop in St. Louis refused to give communion to Senator Kerry in 2004 over his position on Roe v Wade. Thus, it comes as no surprise that a Catholic priest in South Carolina has used the pulpit the threaten to deny sacraments to influence political action. This has become fairly common, and there have been some threats that the IRS will enforce laws restricting tax exemption to religious organizations and charities that avoid such politically oriented activities.
Blagojevich seems to be a prime example of a person with character disorder. His critics/opponents have been trying to bring him down on corruption charges from the day he was sworn into office. He is a fool to say anything on a phone call and a fool to post any messages that would expose unlawful behavior. Yet, it appears, if the charges being brought against hin are accurate, that he has done these very things.
